So for the record, I tried to make this post yesterday but the website ate my post for lunch and I am just now getting around to re-writing it.... I have also uploaded more pictures in her album not mentioned here so be sure to check it out!
I was concerned with the amount that Little Miss Abigail was spitting up.... sorry about your skirt, Mema! So I talked to the nurse at her pediatricians office and she had me put Abigail on this insane eating schedule. So I was feeding her smaller amounts but every 2 hours from start of feeding to start of the next feeding. Then I had to burp her really well and keep her upright for at least 30 minutes after a feeding. Well after 24 hours of this, I was exhausted but she was spitting up less. In the meantime, I had spoken to Rosemary (they came to visit, see the picture in Abigail's album) and she reminded me that her mom was an early childcare nutritionist for the Brazos Valley and drives all over this area taking weight and measurements of children ages 0 to 3 years. I had Mrs. Toni come over and do a growth check on Abigail. When we put little miss on that scale, neither of us believed what we saw.... 7 pounds and 2 ounces!!! Granted, there are variations between scales, we weighed her with a dry diaper on and we weighed her right after a feeding. But still, at her 2 week appointment she weighed 5lbs 12oz and eleven days later she's around 7 pounds! We ran the math using these numbers, her average weight gain for those 11 days was 2 ounces a day! For those who don't know, the average weight gain for babies after they reach their birth weight is somewhere between 0.5-1 ounce per day. Needless to say, her spitting up is not causing any growth problems. I can't imagine what she would weigh if she kept it all down. So I said forget it to the insane feeding schedule and now feed her every 2.5-3 hours with lots of burping and upright time after each feeding.
In other Abigail news..... We took her to get a picture with Santa about 2 weeks ago now. You can barely see that little squirt in Santa's big hand.....
So Abigail has been practicing holding her head up alot, mostly after eating and when I'm burping her. But the other day she was finally awake enough during the day that I was able to put her on a blanket for a little "tummy time". Well it took me forever to get this shot with all of her squirming but her she is lifting her precious little head (you can't tell but she is also lifting her legs up, for counterbalance I suppose). So it is officially 6 days after her original due date. When I was pregnant I never thought I would make it all the way to her due date but I never could have imagined that I would already have an alert baby that can already lift her head by now.
