Pumpkins, Tomatoes, Sunflowers and Monsters
November 03, 2009  By: Lauren Bouse

Since we haven't updated in a while, this one will be a long one.

October 24th my cousin Reuben got married! The wedding was very small and intimate in my aunt and uncles backyard. The wedding was beautiful!! All the hard work that was put into the yard and event really paid off! We had a great time and a big bonus was that my sister Amy and my Uncle Steve came to town for the event so it was great to visit with them. You can see all the good, not so good and bad pictures that I took at the wedding on our photo page.

The Society of Forensic Science which is a student organization at Sam had a halloween themed bake sale to raise money for a scholarship they hand out each year. So I did my share by making some popcorn balls which are similar to rice krispie treats except with popcorn and candy instead of cereal. I dyed the marshmallow goop orange, stuck a pretzel stick in the top and attempted to pipe little faces on with melted chocolate and ended up with some things that resembled Jack-O-Lanterns. Jim was laughing at me for the entirety of this project because I was working so hard at making a huge mess of myself and the kitchen. Anyways, here's a picture of the final product...

So the week before halloween I had a ridiculous amount of school work to do and I was trying to make our costumes and get ready for my favorite holiday. After coming home cranky and stressed for several days in a row. I came home Thursday to find a bouquet of sunflowers with the cutest little monster balloon in the middle.... Isn't Jim sweet?

So halloween finally arrived! Unfortunately I had two papers to finish up that day :( But after that, Jim and I finished up our costumes, carved our first Jack-O-Lantern together and hit the road to Houston for a party at Matt (Gully) and Cortney's house. We had tons of fun at the party, almost everyone dressed up, the decorations were great especially all the dry ice, and there were lots of halloween themed snacks. Best of all, they live 10 minutes away from my parents' house, so we were able to get ready over there and then spend the night there without having to drive all the way home to Kurten late at night with a bunch of crazies. Here is a picture of us at the party dressed up as Lily and Herman Munster from the old TV show, The Munsters. You can see the rest of the photos from the party on our photos page. (Jim is attempting to imitate Herman's goofy grin... I promise he doesn't always look like that)

Last item of significance.... our tomato plant finally has tomatoes!!! I counted three today and they are super tiny right now but hopefully they will ripen before a bad cold snap hits.
